A new update for the Nintendo Switch 2 has added VRR (Variable Refresh Rate) support while the console is docked.
The short version
- Listed in the Switch 2 version 23.0.0 update released today , Nintendo explains that as long as both your TV and the software you're playing supports it, VRR should now work.
- All you need to do to enable it is update your Switch 2 dock firmware and turn it on in the Display section of the settings.
- If you're not familiar with what VRR actually does, in basic terms it matches the refresh rate of the game you're playing with your TV or monitor.
What happened
When these are out of sync, noticeable glitches like screen tearing or stuttering can occur as the console attempts to match their refresh rates. In theory, then, you should see less screen-tearing and stuttering with VRR enabled.
Why it matters
The update also brings some other nice additions to the Switch 2.
